Plein air painting is what I am mostly pursuing at this time. I am looking for feedback, more sales/patrons, of course, and other artists to connect with.

Botanical Painting

Bodega Head Annual Iris painting, Friday, May 11th-

16×20-Bodega Head

16×20, still out of medium….arrived just after 1oAM perfect conditions, then the fog gently settled around, though wind wasn’t much….until it did set my whole rig face down IN the iris bed behind me, which improved the piece, kind of wanted to let attached blossoms/grasses stay, mixed media?!  Figured the violet petals would brown though…..

“My Wild Iris Farm” with the Monday Morning Painters, 5/7

Walked around til I found my painting composition, alas in thee hot sun despite use of umbrella, whew.  Gorgeous irisssssssssss everywhere.  I remember coming here years ago & it was too early in season, there was ONE or 2, it was cold, & no one else came.  Painted it, #18, Navy Blue, I think was labeled.  Out of my fav panels, using Duo water minisible oils but no medium nor gamasol, but did have galkyld lite, shoveled on the paint to stick to this Blick stretched canvas.

“My Wild Iris Farm” hot day, fabulous Iris’ business

Lavendar Fields at Mantanzas Creek Winery June 20th-

So they’re running a bit late, still lots of interest in the soft greens, scanty violet moments, pathways and flowers.  Ought to be perfect by Saturday, when I will be painting during the Lavendar Festival, with fellow painters Katrina and Valerie, Char Wood above with many works for sale.

Hot Daze are Here!

Sara Lee Gardens, June 13th-

Felt the need to paint bigger, as when I first started painting….16×20….finished on site by 12:30.  The dawn light woke me up this day, set up in the shade as heat was rising steadily, loving the foxgloves beckoning, the distant views of oaks surviving in the vineyards.

Sara Lee Vineyards, 16x20 Oils

Went at it again, on wee 5×7″ canvas, more “lonely” in a vertical perhaps…..

5x7" retry for lonely emphasis, simplicity....

Hm mm, maybe I ought to have drawn another emotion, same scene, angry iris?

My 1st try on mentorsonline. project, drew “lonely,” after selecting iris w/distant barn-

Lavendar Fields toDAY….

Added another in right front foreground, there, that's better.

Mantazas Creek Winery's Lavendar Garden
12×16″oils on panel

Cooler as fore casted AND the morning free to jam out to Mantazas Creek Winery by 9, this came together quickly, especially as I saw workers harvesting half way up and had that EXTRA sense of urgency, HAH.  It is at its peak, these days of heat did their job fer sure.

The day started foggy, which was lovely on the duck pond, silk trees so figurative, reaching for the water, eastern light diffused from a multitude of other trees began to come thru as the dang sun insisted on coming out and complicating things.

Mendocino Rhododendrons re-visited

Still trying to make this less cheerful….by letting more of the dark branches on foggy day be there, increasing paint depth with brush strokes n’ palette knife….checking values n’ color harmonies….what do YOU think?

re-visited-is it better?

Mendocino Botanical Gardens

in May….although I cherish loose & abstractly painted landscapes, I thought this was a time to go with blots of rhododendrons in a more realistic way, enhancing the detail of focal point, beckoning one to follow that trail to the right.  Tricky as closer flowers are, (were) blue violet….I think I want to paint more of the dense, old rhodo bush-tree upper right, develop into thicker paint overall, (for one reason I HATE to see canvas dots showing through).  Any opinion(s) welcomeThis or the next one for September Mendocino gallery show, only can show one.
