Plein air painting is what I am mostly pursuing at this time. I am looking for feedback, more sales/patrons, of course, and other artists to connect with.

NOVEMBER! 8x10 allaprima

NOVEMBER! 8×10 allaprima

I have lots of pictures of all walls, mid-week, so to those that I told I would share all, please comment to let me know what you’d like to see-

not sure I WILL post all walls of all work at this point otherwise….

Suffice it to say, everyone did their best, & many seemed as tired as I, though I wish I’d attended more of the evening events/BBQ’s and chatted more, I really needed to have the rest time and with each set-up, attempt to paint my best painting (yet), as always….learning with each one, enhanced by seeing how everyone made choices in similar compositions.  Really good to participate in the first annual paint-out, and they are going forward with year two!

Mendocino Open Paint out, was September 9th-14th….I arrived Sunday, 9/8, walked around the head to get the feel, gorgeous weather THAT eve….

Dillon Beach Monday, a “Plein Air Liaison” event-

One of those great, coastal summer days with overcast making the day timeless, very little change in the lighting.  Al Tofanelli stepped in for Carole Gray-Weihman, & Serjio Lopez also painted afternoon into evening….

My sister Jill, her boys Christopher & Nikolas & their 18 month old golden lab Charlie came for a few hours, a nice break between 2 (11×14) studies I did, 12:30-7 overall time there….very serene….Image

Russian River Rose Garden, last Monday, June 3rd-

This is rather like my earlier work, lots of paint, little areas of rest, rather undefined focal point(s)….upon a repainted stretched canvas and I prefer board.  I may yet make it work, and still think I can resolve my style inclinations of exciting energy, thick paint where IT’S most appreciated, and capture emotion.

Abigail actually showed up for the first time this year, I think, with baby boy Coltraine and Anni!  We had Brent, Char, Mary, Don, 2 ladies that can’t often join us-a teacher, gosh, was it Samatha?  sorry, Rachel, and Carolyn….pretty good showing.Image9×12 oil on many layered old stretched canvas, ;^(

STILL, the direction I wish to go is more abstracted-full of energy, much that I like in this late winter SONOMA PLACE 8×10-

I HAVE been painting a lot, computer problems this spring, new iMAC-

after also being hacked, plus vacation up to Lassen Volcanic National Park, not liking iPhotos much, will catch up soon, much to learn, or software to buy more akin to photoshop elements.

Yikes.

Painting in the neighborhood today, Southwest Santa Rosa abandoned homes, abandoned cats….

ImageTwo of the many ferals I take care of, were left when owners were evicted from place on the right, no running water then….I am drawn to the feeling of the sinking, many patched-over roof, the roses and such overtaking them….

Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows, blow up from plein air August piece (8×10)

OH what a place to be, especially in August….those fleeting days, the deep snowpack much of the year, the best place I’VE ever painted.

16x20 oil

Kevin, Day 2 continued, nature’s inspiration, Pt Lobos, cold day-

Kevin's view

9/11/11 Departure day, I awoke at dawn with urge to try a quick study….

with all my errors, these maestro masters technique & visions in my head, thought it would be best to lay down some paint as note taking….I SO wanted to take on the wharf view with its saturate circus of color….

Kevin MacPherson demo after lunch, the highlights-

He says something akin to that he’s lately begun with calligraphy-like  drawings, searching out his composition; not important that he’s using gray here….

"Theory of Relativity" 9x12 panel, I think

I had something down within 1/2 hr, tweaked it another hr or so….

….now keep in mind that I’ve been studying Kevin’s “Fill Your Painting with Light and Color,” even more so before this trip, so I DID lay down my darkest dark, lightest light, first, as I painted my usual way….this morning began with a sunrise demo and stuffing ourselves and gear into 2 shuttle buses, starting at 7:15, wherein the driver at Portula Plaza Hotel said,”They didn’t tell us you’d have gear.”  HAH.  SO it took awhile to get out there, unload, logistics, find this spot, starting to paint in the fog about 9:45 maybe.

grays included for this "Theory of Relativity" workshop

Ah, but he started the day telling us to paint first, our “usual way….”

"Our Way"

Monterey “Weekend with the Masters,” how do I begin….?

Hm mm, I signed up for the maximum, 12 events, 5 days, including: amazing portrait demos:  Richard Schmid, Quang Ho & Daniel Sprick dueling out 2 hr portrait of model simultaneously, 2 full plein air days w/Kevin MacPherson, and more….

Kunde Winery Mountaintop Overlook with Monday Morning Painters 8/15/11-thanks Laura!

This is a view looking east, Laura was painting there….some 16 of us went above, and some 6-10 for SOME reason stayed below….there were very good paintings at the 12:45 critique, guess I was too tired to photo them, oops, but it was glorious up there, thought I’d share some of them.

Showing 15 paintings at Sonoma National Bank in Sebastopol til 9/15-

Many of these are there; tis the bank next to Whole Foods….

Santa Cruz plein air morning, 12/11/10….

Santa Cruz Beach

Embracing the grays!

Our wonderful cousins let us use their rental home, Twin Lakes Beach….got out before many were about, gorgeous changing fog n’ light, first lighthouse study….gave this to cousin Reed & his wife Cindy….nudged it a little after this hm mm, a few fixes n’ such, didn’t retake photo.

Demo 1 continued,

Further progression....Chuck Waldman's inspirationCalling it done, simple foreground may stay....

“Apple Blossoms vs Vineyards” spruced up today, last years….

Sullivan Way, Sebastopol

12 x 16" oils on canvas

….Sullivan Way, Sebastopol

….now seems a tad cool in places, & I KNOW how dangerous painting on old work can be, but it was SO sketchy, well scant blooms last year didn’t help when we went out….

….gave this to George Dutton, May, 2010….Dutton Vineyards of Graton VERY nearby….

Tomales Monday, from sunny to, ah, foggy

I arrived at Walker Creek by 10:15 & found a scene that felt right, a bit of that rampant Scotch broom left, with convergence of hills & those ranch roads leading up wards.  It was sunny, slight breezes….noticed a few fellow painters up on highway occasionally, looking for their spots.

8 x 10" oils on panel $125.

Tomales painting from 8/31

I think I need to nudge the values n’ color a bit on this old shed.  The pink naked lady is not reading as strong as I’d like, the survivor flower it IS in the darkest part of the shadow from debris & growth.Art Tomales shed paint 002
